Project 1-1
Carbon Farming
The Whitsed family have been connected to this land and surrounding areas for over 70 years and have seen many seasonal highs and lows over this period. Recently however the property was extensively impacted by bushfires and then severe thunderstorms which washed out gullies and deposited gravel across areas of the farm. The increasing intensity and frequency of these extreme weather events have been a catalyst for the family to engage with regenerative farming practices and run a CarbonPumpCarbon Farming project on their property.

Use of a Soilkee Renovator is a core part of the Whitsed’s strategy to regenerate their property. This equipment enables simultaneous soil tilling and planting of annual crops into perennial pastures. During this process soil micro-biology is stimulated improving soil health which leads to improved carbon sequestration and improved yields from pastures. The family are also exploring the impact of reducing herd numbers and experimenting with alternative grazing strategies as part of their regeneration effort.
